shingles
this morning, (sunday) i recieved a call from an unfamiliar number. when the caller identify herself i was very surprised. she was one of the cute and love-able girls that i met during my posting in the hospital. she even has the same surname as me, comes from a place in malaysia that was very near to my mummy's birth-place. she told me that she had shingles and that she had just awarded a 5 days mc! she don't want to go on mc cuz she want to be home the following week for her birthday! i can't help but found it so ironic! there she has just 4 more days and call it over then she is faced with this shingles that will promise pain, aches and make-up days and even a more distant worry of possible failure (if she really have to CRIB for 5 days!). i pity her! really do!
i did a little read up on shingles and found that it affect normally a restricted area on the body and normally only 1 side of the body is affected. only people that had previously gotten chickenpox will get it cuz its the same virus. however it is not communicable. but the blister and rash is bad enough. while chickenpox makes one itch, shingles make the person twitchs with pain and aches. not only that the dried particle from the blister can be transported by the wind and if it lands on a person that had never gotten chickenpox, that poor person will run the risk of having chickenpox. shingles can be repeatable and it will come on whenever its victmin is stress or gotten infected or simply immuno-compromised.
that poor girl must be very very stress cuz the ward was really getting busier each day when we left. with the shortage of staff, some resigned/transferred... and the demanding patients (can't blame them. sometime they are fearful of their condition so the outward demanding personality. to feel that at least they are in control of something) no wonder nurses get burned out!
Girl! i will be praying for you! hopefully u will get well after a good day rest on 1st May! God bless!!!
