Singapore Shorts (film)

recently i borrowed this Singapore Shorts DVD back from my NYP sch-library. isn't it cool that our school actually have a lifestyle area where there are DVD/ VCD/ A-VC?

initially i wasn't at all interested in this DVD although i had seen it a couple of time. but i thought it was some documentary about Singapore and stuff. but a classmate recommended it to me and told me that he was involved in 1 of the short film. so i borrowed it to see what it is about.

the DVD has 9 short films in it. i like it! very short and sweet. i can sense the film makers trying to touch the inner core of human's feeling.

before this i was desperately searching for the film about a little girl's process of learning piano. how she hates it but her mom force her to attend that boring lesson. but i didn't find it. =) i rediscovered it in this DVD and the film's title is "Secret Heaven" by Sun Koh.

so out of the 9 which is my favourite? hmm... tough choice to make, cuz i like almost all of them! i like "Secret Heaven" for its innocence and pure desire to 'escape' from a child's point of view. i like "Locust" and "Mother" for their simplitic presentation and the conflicting feeling within. i like "3 Feet Apart" for the freshness of its idea and presentation (i like cartoon, you see...)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my friend was involved in the film "The Call Home". hmm... honest feedback?! haha...
1st i don't really feel much for the main character (could it be the race/ language?!) so err...
2nd the color was too vibrant for my liking...but its the typical hue and tone for that race so err... its my preference thingie lar.
3rd, honestly i think the actors are not very good in handling the inner-emotional acting part. they aren't professional actors, right? maybe that's the reason? i can't feel the tension, the resigning to fate, the helplessness in their eyes/ gestures/ etc.

but all is not lost... the actual part where the main character spoke to his wife regarding his sister's dowry and illustrating the kind of 'terrible' things he had to endure while working like a dog here... the intensity of the speech (honestly i tot that was the only peak in the plot) and the agony that chap must be feeling was really impactful... i mean, if you are the person going through all that, wow... it must be really woeful... :'(
