well done NTUC union! *pat on the back*

i always think that the union does nothing but organise activities. in my ex-company the union isn't too active, the only time i hear the union speak is when the big bosses are looking at the yr-end bonus. and of cuz there are those NTUC union 'saleman' that hang outside the supermarket promoting the membership to office workers and other professions. hmm...my idea of union is that it is good for NTUC chalet's booking, rebates and free bags or sort-annually, oh ya and that 'lifestyle' magazine. heehee...

however the headlines today in Straits Time proves that union is still good and worker-focus. the newspaper mentioned that the union had sent in a proposal to the MOM asking them to review the no. of foreign workers we have in Singapore and issues on CPF contribution and housing, daycare, childcare rebates/ subsidies. i totally agree with their idea although it seems that the movement may steer us more like the Westerns, where a lot of those lower income people are living on social handout. ok, its not a 100% social handout sort of policy but it certainly is some sort of social help right?

since Singapore isn't just a young developing country anymore...(ya we had that debate years ago! is Singapore a developed or developing country?!) maybe its time we deal with the hard fact that Singapore had indeed matured in this $$ area and there is an increasing gap of the rich and the poor.

i hope that MOM will look deep into the root issue and come up with great policies to help our fellow countryman. =) i think if we able to tackle this stuff about foreign worker thing, it will to some level put a stop on the saying that - foreigners are out there to 'steal' our bread and butter.
